Elderberries

Hi all,
I have an abundance of elderberries, free to anyone who wants to come and pick them.

Something edible in exchange would be nice! But not obligatory

Mum's Elderberry wine now that brings back memories. I always remember going to Louth in Lincolnshire to visit Granddad and granma on the bus as a child. Dad had two bottles of elderberry wine in his Greatcoat pockets and just outside of Louth on the Lincolnshire road car bus the corks blew off the bottles.
Talk about duck,diving and weaving everyone was taking cover.The Cream interior of the bus and my dad looked very fetching in his crimson sunday best.

This year we've also had an abundance of elderberries, so I've made a couple of gallons of wine. I'd do more but you're too far away, and we have to be back in UK at the end of the week for a month so haven't the time. Shame as it's a superb brew, but you have to be patient as it takes at least 2 years at least to mature the excess tannin out of it. It's a good idea not to bottle it until it's finished fermenting Simmo, we had some stored under the bed once which popped it's cork in the middle of the night and glug glugged it's way through the floorboards and stained the downstairs ceiling a lovely deep red. Wifey was not amused, more from losing the wine I reckon rather than the redecoration required.

Rocket fuel or what!.It was given to us children as a winters night night cap in the days before central heating. With a trip up the wooden hill being a shock to the system after the warmth of the parlour fire.

Simmo.........Logs? Don't talk to me about logs! We've just had 5 meters delivered, dumped at the side of the road, and I've wheelbarrowed the lot across the road, up the slope into the barn and stacked them. And I'm knackered! I'm just getting too old for this....need a reviving half pint of elderberry wine right now!

If you drink half a pint of the old elderberry wine before you shift the logs you'll be amazed how easy it will be. You'll be able to mow the grass at the same time and clean the gutters out too.
