Vitamin C with no additives
Has anyone see vitamin C anywhere on sale, preferably in powder format? It needs to be pure (no additives). Even in UK it's difficult to find as it comes in tablet form and they have started to add things like rosewater etc. I need it for baking bread, it helps the brown bread to rise.

Irena,
I think you need to ask for Poudre ascorbate de calcium at the pharmacy.
You can buy it at this link, and you'll see if says 100% vitamin C powder.
I'm sure the pharmacy will have it.

Re: Vitamin C with no additives
Interestingly, the reason pure Vitamin C disappeared from UK shelves was that it is a very useful acidifier for ensuring that heroin dissolves properly before injection. Heroin users generally have a choice of Vitamin C or Citric Acid - Vitamin C is preferable because it is less acidic, thereby giving a greater margin of error in preparation.
Even places like Holland & Barrett now keep their pure Vitamin C 'under the counter'. But all you have to do is ask.
I have no idea whether this is also the case in France - but as mentioned above, any pharmacy will have supplies.

Thanks for all your help. Very interesting to find out why I suddenly couldn't by it in UK pharmacies any more.
