Help, tax mistake!
Can anyone tell me how to get my tax demand changed please?
For some strange reason, they have demanded 1500 euros in social charges from us this year. We are both retired and
have S1's from the UK, so as I understand it, we are not liable to pay these charges, and we never have in previous years.
Or has something changed?

Hi Inkflo
Simmo here
I complete our tax forms each year and take them to our tax office in Tulle, The forms which you complete, changed slightly last year and i entered our pensions in the wrong section on the new form. The tax officer corrected it for me,saying you must put your pension details in this section or you will end up paying social charges.
So inkflo the only thing that you need to do is pop into your local tax office with your DWP pension doc,s and your copies of the tax form for 2012, they should then be able to sort it for you. P.S remember passport and utility bill along with the kitchen sink just in case.
Simmo in the Correze.

Re: Help, tax mistake!
Thanks Simmo,
The lady in the tax office filled in our forms this year, and guess what, she was the head one!
Just goes to show.
We'll go along on Monday and take all of your suggested paperwork.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Re: Help, tax mistake!
I don't think you are exempt from social charges because you are over pension age. They are still levied on any investment income but pension income is exempt.
As Simmo says in Tulle they are very helpful and seem to be on the ball for getting it correct do hope it s the same in your neck of the woods !!

Thanks Spitfire, we don't have any other income but our UK retirement one, and no investments of any kind.
Blakevine, thank you, our is Limoges, but I'll check the hours of opening.

Re: Help, tax mistake!
Popped into tax office today, all sorted very quickly.
If anyone else has the same problem, she wrote on the amendment sheet ...
Convention Franco Britannique a appliquer. Revenue etrangers imposable en France mais ouvrant droit a 1 credit d'impot.
Basically, it just confirms that as we are in receipt of an S1, we don't have to pay the social charges. Phew.

We have been told by our French tax people that we have to provide the S1 proof (attestation) every year:!: Perfectly believable but perhaps we will hope this is another mistake

Re: Help, tax mistake!
We've been paying tax here for seven years, and this is the first time we've had a problem. I did take our 121/S1 forms this time, baldlygo wrote:We have been told by our French tax people that we have to provide the S1 proof (attestation) every year:!: Perfectly believable but perhaps we will hope this is another mistake

but she never asked to see them. She looked at last years Impot form and said it was all ok.
To be honest, it seems as though different tax offices give out differing information, not sure they really know.
