TVA changes

Hi all, a friend with a holiday home here has just mailed me to saying that he has heard that the current 7% TVA rate will increase to 20% as of 1.1.2014.

This is in relation to a new garage that he wishes to get built in the garden of an old house.

I am not brilliant on searching google or french but all I can find is that the standard 19.6 % will increase to 20% and that the 7% rate will increase to 10%.

Any knowledgeable builders on here who may know the answer. He is panicking a bit at the thought of having to pay an extra 13% TVA.

It is standing at 10% at the moment for 2014 but there have been a couple of strikes and CAPEB is fighting it, so there is a small possibility of it staying at 7%.

My husband is working so I cannot check, but I am sure someone else on here can answer you; but I do know that there are regulations for being eligible for the 7%. For example a barn conversion or new property has to be charged at full rate. Not sure how a "garage" stands in relation to this.

Could you do me a favour and ask your husband what rate he believes should be charged on a new build detached garage in the side garden of an 150 yr old house. Second home owners at the mo but will be here full time late 1014 if that makes any difference.

I checked and in fact he would have to pay full rate TVA anyway as I thought. So the .4% increase on the 19.6 would not make a huge difference. Perhaps he might be better just building an abri unless he needs a fully enclosed garage for storage.
