Window safety bars

Hi

Does anyone know what the French regulations are regarding the height of the window and when safety bars need to be installed? Also, what should the distance between safety bars be?

As it was explained to me, if the window board, or if you prefer, sill, is below 1mt from the floor (internal), then bars should be in place. Looking at some of our windows in apartments that are under rental, and have been given a look see by various bods, one single bar seems sufficient at the 1mt height. I do not have the info as to whether it is compulsory though.
