Please do not take this the wrong way, but why is it so expensive? Does a percentage go to help the library then?
I say this because a top quality restaurant in the Creuse only charges 16€ for 3 courses at midday and the normal run of the mill restaurant I go to most weeks is only 12€ for a 4 course quality meal and that includes red wine on the table too.

Curry Lunch
It is being prepared and served by committee members of the library - we are not professional caterers with access to bulk bought food. As we say, if there is any profit it will go to the library - but this is not the main aim. We really want to have a pleasant social occasion and not lose any money.

Hi Tradzoner
A good curry bash i have to say is worth a few euros over and above the norm. The menu sounds good to me and what the heck you carn't take it with you(money that is!), so as we say lets get stuck in and after tasting what the French call curry I am really looking forward to it.
Simmo in the Correze. Tiger beer anyone?.

No, sorry Simmo, not for me. I am not in to curries cooked by English as I can do as well in my own kitchen but also I don't enjoy expat get togethers, so for me its a no win situation. I prefer to stick to my French connections. Each to their own. I am sure you will all enjoy it.

Dear Tradzoner,
Thank you for your input - as you live in the North Creuse I don't suppose you were likely to come anyway.
You may be interested to know that our library membership is more than one third French. This event is not just being advertised on this, admittedly, ex-pat website, but also to our French members and their friends.

Re: The Correze English Library invites you to join them for a Curry!
Dear DC
No, its true I had no intention of coming. Although distance is not a problem for us. My astonishment was with the cost.
As I am on a local Comite des Fêtes here and we do several meals/dances every year of 4 courses with a band, I just could not see how you could charge so much, that was it, simple. We make a profit at every one and have never charged more than 15€. We don't bulk buy either. I was happy to leave it at that but Simmo replied. I speak honestly and perhaps that is taken the wrong way
From personal experience, having been asked to join 3 associations I have found that the problem is that when some Brits get together they find it easier to ignore the French who are there and just speak in English to their friends. Hence at all 3 associations the French may have been members but they never attended the socials, which the Brits also wanted aimed at their social tastes and not the French ones. I am sure every region is different but two were in the Creuse and one in the Indre.
But as I said what suits one does not necessarily suit another and we are all different, that is what makes the world such an interesting place.

I have taken all your incredibly negative comments on board and we will struggle on to run a library for French and English speakers to meet and to have a pleasant social event.

Re: The Correze English Library invites you to join them for a Curry!
Well, me and my husband have just arrived in France (well, we've been here since June) and we are living our dream. We would dearly love to come and support the English Library and love a good curry. Quite the reverse is true of me as I actively search out the French and try my best to conjure up a conversation; mad women they think as I prattle on about the weather, my dogs, the rugby........However, the curry is the same day as the music concert in Tulle and more importantly (to me only) it's the day that my beloved Northampton Saints play their H cup game in Castres....so that's where we are hopefully heading, pending ticket availability. So, good luck to the English Library and we hope to come and find you before too long. many thanks for the invite. Karen Blakemore (you heard it through the BLAKEVINE).
