Hotmail problem Empty Hotmail problem

Post by Izzyedwards Wed Nov 20, 2013 4:39 pm

My personal Hotmail has been hacked again. So I want to delete the account and just use my gmail, but the Hotmail has got a load of emails on it that I'll need to save (eg relating to purchase of house in France, sale of house in Scotland etc). Now is there any way I can download or transfer them in bulk or is the only way to print them all out and / or forward them individually to the gmail?
Please bear in mind my technology competence is at Luddite level. Many thanks in advance!

If you delete you contacts list, they can no longer send emails to your contacts. Simples!!! That way you can leave your account open without fear of it being hijacked Very Happy

When two yahoo accounts of ours were hacked we just changed the passwords. Haven't had a problem since.
You will have to forward each one individually to gmail we think, there doesn't appear to be any other option that we can see on our gmail account.

You can (and, if they're important, you probably should) download them to your computer. Assuming you use Windows you can set up an email reader such as Outlook Express, Windows Live or Thunderbird to collect all the mail that's on the Hotmail server. You can then use the same email reader if you decide to go with Gmail or some other free email (I can recommend GMX which is not associated with Microsoft or Google and far less likely to be hacked).

Alternatively have a look at http://www.wikihow.com/Switch-from-Hotmail-to-Gmail which might be what you're looking for.

PM me if you want any specific help.

Many thanks to everyone. I discovered that if I set up something called "POP" on Gmail it would pull forward all the emails that were in my Hotmail Inbox to my new gmail. So I simply transferred all the emails in the various Hotmail folders that I wanted to transfer back into my Hotmail inbox and hey-presto, they arrived in Gmail.. I then had to re-sort them into appropriate folders in Gmail, so the whole process took a couple of hours, but I got there. Then I removed the POP function on Gmail and closed the Hotmail account, so hopefully that'll be the end of that.

Hmm. If anyone emails you at your (ex-)Hotmail address it will now bounce back or possibly disappear down a black hole. Better, if it's not too late, to keep the Hotmail account (and remove all contacts held by Hotmail) until you're sure you're not receiving any more genuine emails.
