We have set up our TV and get French tv via an aerial (although it would be good if someone could check out we're doing it right). The previous occupant used a separate satellite dish to get his Dutch tv and we are hoping we can do the same to get EnglishTV. We have also brought our old SKY box with us which seems to work but the Sky subscription card is out of date so I'm guessing if it was renewed then it would work OK???? The only contact I have so far is DNA-TV.COM whom I rang today and got an ansaphone and the e-mail I sent has been returned as failed. So - has anyone got any contacts they can suggest to set up my tele? Pages Jaunes for our area does not help I'm afraid.

Also - does anyone love rugby and has access to BT Sport (who are covering most of the rugby this season). If so,, can you tell me how you do that please??? Do you have to have a UK address (which we have not)??
Many thanks again....K

Hi.
You do not need a card to pick up free to view channels (BBC, ITV, CH4 etc.) Your skybox should work straight away when you have your dish realigned.
It depends on whether you feel able to get to the dish and move it or not. If you do, I can give you some tips on alignment.

Hi Pogo - I can't quite understand why I wouldn't need an up to date Sky box card but if it will work without all the better. Our dish is huge and is mounted on a frame in the garden! I think it was deemed too big to put on the side of the house. HOWEVER, I would be more than willing to move it or part of it if I knew what I was doing. Can you give me those tips over the computer or do you live anywhere near me? 19320 Les Charbonniers near to St Merd de Lapleau.
many thanks. Karen.

True.. you don't need a current card or Sky subscription to get the basic Uk free to view channels.

The site below may help you to align the dish. Just put in your location and choose the satellite as 28.2 E Astra 1N, 2D, 2E, 2F. If you cannot find your exact location in the database then just choose somewhere nearby and drag the map. You can use the map to align it compared to landmarks, other houses etc and a compass. Then just a matter of being patient till you hit it spot on. You will need the assistance of someone else to yell at you when you get a signal, whilst you jiggle the dish.

Hope that helps

Excellent - me and the hubby will have a go at that tomorrow then. It'll be like Berny the Bolt - up a bit, no left a bit, no right a bit.

What about BT Sport though? It's a subscription as far as I know (apart from those who already have BT phone, TV etc in the UK) so is it possible to get that somehow?

thanks. K

Best of luck with the dish setup.

I have been here for a while and now only have FTV and no Sky subscription. As you say BT Sport is subscription and you can order it via the Sky platform but NOT with a french address as Sky cannot legally broadcast to Europe.

Many expats over here do have a sky subscription arranged via a UK address. If you have recently had a Sky subscription you could contact them and try and re-subcribe and then add the BT Sports. A new card could be sent to a uk address and then forwarded (just tell them you moved and already have a dish and box) Do be careful if you are ringing from a french phone as it can sometimes show up as international to customer services and they will know you are not in the UK.

Alternatively I believe some expat installers can arrange a sky subscription for you, for an extra cost over and above what Sky charge.

Hope all that info is right... I am sure someone will correct me or add to what I have said if not.

Hi.
TonyH has said it all.

If you want to check your signal, press TV Guide, then right arrow to services, then 4, then 6, and it will show signal quality and strength. If they are both about 3/4 up the scale, thats about as good as I ever get.

Good luck.

Crickey - what a lot of knowledgeable folks out there.....before I start then I think I should "check the signal" - is this by using the TV handset and pressing TV Guide or the Sky handset and pressing TV Guide - sorry to be pickky. Then I'll decide about re-aligning the dish etc.

Also, as I suspected, we may have to summon assistance with the BT sport subscription because we don't have a bolt hole in the UK so no UK address to claim that is ours. Our Sky subscription ceased a few years' ago so it's a minor miracle that the box connects anyway. Thanks. Karen.

Sky handset , services and then signal test. Just be aware that if it was set up to receive Dutch TV it is probably pointing at the wrong satellite so all a signal test will do is tell you that the signal from that satellite is OK. Are you able to tune in any channels on your skybox at the moment ?

If you have a friend in the Uk who is not a sky subscriber then you could use their  address.

So it's taken this long, but, we now have English TV courtesy of our builder.......We were pretty sure we had all the kit (so not keen on shelling out mega bucks for someone to come and tell us we had) so we tried all the above with web sites and stuff. Being the persistent soul that I am I mentioned our plight to **** and he not only had a digital compass (to get the satelite right) but also another magic boxy thing.... So thanks so much **** as I watched Escape to the Country on Thursday and Oceans 11 last night. Oh, and if anyone needs to know, as long as you have the Sky box you do not need a Sky card to watch TV. (ours had expired anyway). Now to sorting out access to BT Sport ... Bliss. K.
