Football and all that
In the Guardian this morning, I read this:
"Captain warns of ‘terrible, long summer’ if Roy Hodgson’s team lose their second game in five days at the World Cup"
It's true to say that I'm not football's most ardent admirer or supporter, but even by footballing standards, this is simply stupid. If you're laid off work, if you're diagnosed with some nasty illness, if someone near to you receives bad news, if your life savings take a dive or if Bill the Burglar calls round and nicks your most precious family jewels, that will give you a "terrible, long summer", but for a team to get knocked out of some football cup-type thingy may be construed by some as a shame, that's about the end of it.
No doubt someone will take offence at this but you need really bad news at times to put trivialities into perspectives and for any national team to be knocked out of an international competition may be a bit sad for its supporters but "terrible" it isn't.

I agree with you Tocyvi. MY OH is keen on football but not holding his breath that England will go very far; however my brother's partner has recently had the news that she has terminal cancer and this may be her last summer - for her I hope it's a long and not terrible summer. In the grand scheme of things a lost football match is neither here nor there.

You said it more succinctly than I, Amber.

I think you can tell how good someones life is by the things they moan about. If you moan about trivial things, your life must be pretty good.
I must be the most content guy in the world, because Im always moaning about the checkout at Bricomarche.

Understandable! It's essential. What's life without a good old moan. Like Pogo, I'm never happier than when I'm moaning about something. Luckily, I'm never short of something to gripe about.
And another thing that really gets me going is ......

The England football team have just visited a local orphanage. We were saddened to see their tearfull faces with no hope in their eyes, said six year old Jose.
