Life and death in the Limousin Empty Life and death in the Limousin

Post by BLAKEVINE Mon Oct 06, 2014 6:00 pm

Having been here 16 months I have gone through a wide range of emotions, but, I am now experiencing something for the first time. Our Maire's stepmother has died. She was a lovely lady who I first met at the apero for the commune just after we had all been elected. She made me feel most welcome and she and her husband (the Maire's father) have always enjoyed a chat with us whenever we have been out and about. She died last Friday (aged 66) and I had been wondering what to do about going round to the house etc (just what do the French want you to do?) and what would happen if I saw her husband.....Well, that was solved today when I passed the house and saw him outside. I simply stopped the car, walked towards him and no words were needed as we just embraced each other and shed a few tears - actions speak far louder than words in any language.... When the alarm goes tomorrow morning and I try and shrink back under the duvet I'll remind myself that it's good to be alive and get my butt out of bed and get on with life.

Usually we just say "Toutes mes condoléances" and/or "nous sommes de tout coeur avec vous". If you are closest you may say "il/elle nous manquera beaucoup".

The best is to say the least. What you did is perfect and has no country border.
