Parking outside Limoges airport
I went to pick up some family members from Limoges airport today and there was a police car parked on the verge on the other side of the roundabout. Two officers were busily employed apparently taking the car registration numbers of cars parked there. It raises an interesting question - is it actually illegal to park there? Whatever the answer may be, it may be best to do the honourable thing and park in the car park; it is only 2.50€ for up to an hour.

I often wonder about those cars parked there. The car park is very inexpensive. I wonder why they do it. It can't be safe, let alone whether it's legal or not?

An interesting question indeed, I understand that it is an offence to park in the same spot for seven days or more, and some culprits have overstayed that mark. Out of interest, when I passed the said space about ten days ago, cars were being lifted, by crane, (by the rozzers) onto flat bed trucks and taken away, I wondered at the time what it was going to cost to retrieve ones vehicle.

It's a bit of an awkward one this; on the one hand, I can appreciate that the police have a job to do and so are right to lift the offending vehicles, but on the other, I can't see that it's causing a great problem for other traffic. The bottom line is, however, if you're going away for any length of time, you really can't complain about the pricing structure of the long stay car park and it's a lot safer than dumping it by the roadside.

Re: Parking outside Limoges airport
The other reason the police might be noting number plates is because quite a lot of cars up at the airport are on U.K. plates and I have my doubts that they are all visitors to France, or have only been here for the last three months.
I've never understood the reason for parking by the roundabout - as has been said the car park is hardly expensive and a lot more convenient when having to trundle a case around.

It is actually signed as no parking ...the universal road sign of red cross on blue background ....in Uk I think its classed as a clearway.
The airport parking is actually free if you park for less than 20 mins ...we've been pleasantly surprised when arrivals have been on time and we've put our ticket in the machine to pay !

You have confirmed my suspicions Lucky about the no parking, although I didn't want to say as I wasn't sure of my facts. Some years ago I remember the police had a clamp down there and for a while there were no cars to be seen on the verges but people have obviously gradually started using it again.

In the No.2 car park, on the right after the roundabout, the charge for a stay of 21 minutes - 1 hour is only 1,50 Euros.

Re: Parking outside Limoges airport
There were six cars parked by the roundabout on Thursday - three each side - and yet there were loads of parking places in the 2nd car park (I have to admit I didn't look in the 1st car park).
