Tales from a hospital bed part 3.

Post by simmo on Fri Aug 15, 2014 8:26 am

Hi Folks,
Its been six weeks since my stroke and three weeks in hospital with a further three weeks in the rehabilitation centre and despite all the loving care its beginning to do my head in.Oh! to be home with the love of my life and our garden, still i suppose im the lucky one , when you see how badly effected some poor folk are in here.It will take them years to recover if indeed ever, so i have to keep reminding myself to count my blessing and i do get a kick out of even being in my condition helping and encouraging those fellow patients worse of then me.
We have French, Dutch, English,Algerian and even one lady from French Guyana(exscuse my spelling im still one handed (LEFT) and it is a French keyboard). With a Doctor from Romaina we are a truly right bunch of folk, but we still manage to communicate even the patients who lost there speech when they had there stroke.
I am now at the stage of being able to wash, shave, dress and feed myself and even dare i say it go to the toilet by myself(its a long time since someone else had to wipe my bottom(my mum).Getting use to walking is to say the least interesting, it was like a babies first steps and im sure i did not put my right foot over there,it seems to have a mind all of its own.So folks if you see a Englishman in the coming weeks staggering round the Correze talking to his right leg,its ok he is not drunk or got a slate loose its only me.

Don't get discouraged Simmo, you are doing really well. I used to work in a regional rehab. unit in the U.K. and 6 weeks on is no time at all to be doing all the things you've already mastered. As you say there are always others worse off who will have a much steeper hill to climb, so keep positive and do your exercises.  Smile

Me again, Simmo. Keep smiling and keep your chin up. You are doing fantastically well and each time we've seen you you've made progress. The exercise plan they have you doing is working and you get to go in the pool every day! See you soon. K&Tx

Well done on the progress Simmo, you never sounded a quitter. With your positive, and dare I say it, individual attitude towards life and it's vagaries, you will surprise the hell out of your nursing staff with what you will achieve. Loved your story about the fat bloke. On another note, re your family tree hunting, I have Cummings from Speyside in my family. Janet b1760 and Anne b1768. Janet married a John Cruickshank and Anne had a child by James Cruickshank. I wonder.... Also as I love my whiskey I looked up the distillery you mentioned but no luck, could the french keyboard have misunderstood your spelling?
Keep up your reports, love your sense of humour. Stinky

Love it Simmo. The distillery you mentioned is Cardhu. John and Helen Cummings ran an illicit still from their farm in Cardow (later changed to Cardhu) until they went legit in 1824. He farmed, she distilled and when customs and excise visited she warned others by waving a flag out of the window......Simmo the moonshiner!!!!!! Very Happy
