Another tip I saw, if you have chickens, is to put sweetcorn kernels in cup cake tins, top up with water and freeze, then let the birds peck at them.

hot dog; give it an ice cube......
Tip from a french friend who came round to ours when it was very hot and saw how our dogs were panting and not knowing what to do with themselves.......give them an ice cube she said......Apparently, her vet had advised her that one of the best ways of cooling down her dog was to give it an ice cube. As dogs use their tongues and feet pads to cool down I thought this was worth a try. (The paddling pool I bought was not proving popular although me and my better half were getting best use out of it...). The ice cube works for the Border Terrier who thinks it's great; the lurcher is not so sure and regards it with suspicion.
