123 Hearing left messages

Moving house has left us without wifi and a new smartphone is our only internet connection. We have got to grips with most things but are still completely lost hearing left phone messages. We dial 123 but are then stumped by the fast French. We have never been able to hear any left messages - even ones left by ourselves!!
Please can anyone help tell us what to press.

On a landline yes, but they only have a smartphone.

On my moby, I have to call the number of the beast, 666, to retrieve messages. That is with Free.fr.

It's 123 on my mobile too,but they can't understand the French after that.

Yes Inkflo that's the problem. I can hear the left new message once but then it's gone! If the message is in normal French I would have to listen a lot more than once 
However we now have internet and landline again so this problem is now less important
