Why is it The French and American's are crazy about our Royal Family.

I have been driven to going into my victor Meldrew mode over the last few days by the Royal baby carry on. Everywhere i go our french friends and other folk as soon as they see or find out your a brit. Its a big smile and a thumbs up and the comment is -its a royal baby no?.
I can not stop myself saying Its b----- all to do with me mate,not guilty. The French slaughtered the royal family they had and the Americans kicked the British out, so why oh why do they all go into this daft mode over our overpaid over fed and over privalaged royals. I do not think they would be so keen on them if they had to pay the taxes to keep them.

The answer is easy, isn't it: they love royalty because they haven't got them in their country.

About the cost of the royal family: yes, it's outrageous, but Sarkozy was not cheap either  .

You might think the Royal Family are expensive but, as Myriam says they are not half as profligate as having a President would be. My theory is that the French and Americans are jealous as they realise what they could have had and are missing. 

Can anyone tell me why the choice is between a monarchy or an elected head of state? I mean, why does there have to be a nominal 'head of state' at all? Does having a 'head of state' add something to the democratic process, or safeguard some liberty or other? What am I missing? Even avowed Republicans seem to talk about an elected head of state as though it is a given. My primitive little brain just thinks panem et circenses, the lot of it, bread and circuses.

As for a Head of State its simple - Because there is always some corrupt b***tard who wants the job?

Once you reach certain levels corruption is accepted it seems as Cahuzac it seems has conveniently "lost his memory".

Its not just the French or Americans, the whole world is interested in the Royal family. Maybe its a feel good factor in a world that is losing faith in anyone or anything.

We are the peasants and unless we want to be as corrupt as them then we stay at this level, Is that cynical enough,

I think it's nice that the world is interested in the new Prince although I think the media has gone overboard as usual, hanging around outside the hospital & constantly reporting that they had nothing to report for most of Monday.
The Royal family have a lot of staff, maids, butlers, grooms, gardeners, chefs etc etc but isn't this a good thing? A lot of jobs are created - all of those employed would be looking for work elsewhere if it wasn't for the Royals!
Some of the Royals work, Prince Andrew was a helicopter Pilot in the Royal Navy & served in The Falklands War, Prince William is a Pilot in the RAF & Prince Harry is a Tank commander in the Army & served in Afghanistan. Many of the others especially Princess Anne do a lot for charity. Personally I like the Royal Family but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I have nothing against the royals, the baby, etc, etc, but it seems to becoming the norm for the UK media to bang on and on for days about the same old thing.
Let's go back to hearing the news, next day, move on.
There is a lot going on in the world that they never bother to report, and I for one would like to hear it!

It's the fairy tale element, I think, that makes it interesting for a lot of people. People like to dream. The real world and real news is too depressing and cruel to digest.

That's why, in my opinion, we don't hear anything about Fukushima for instance...
