hi
we have a property near St Pardoux 87250, we are after about 7 cubes of hardwood.  My neighbour may also require some.  Get in touch if you can deliver.  Thanks mick

Your Mairie will often know local suppliers. Sorry I don't live near to you so have no personal recommendations.

Just for info, a stere is 1 cubic metre but the actual volume you receive will depend on the size you have it cut. They start with a stere of metre long wood so if you want small pieces you actually get less volume but almost the same amount of wood. I avoid the use of cordes as it can mean different things in different areas.. usually  3 or 4 stere.

Good luck. If you find someone let us know and anyone else in your area can contact you by PM for the name.

Hi Folk's
Just to add all the locals round our neck of the woods recommend you have half and half as they call it. A mixture of silver birch and oak,The silver birch for the flame and the oak for the heat, and long burn time. Put one on the fire then the other,we found it works a real treat.

hi
I prefer my money to buy oak, I mix this with sweet chestnut I find in the woods, personally I don't rate silver birch.

Chestnut is fine, providing you burn it in a heater, but it does not have a great calorific value.

We prefer hêtre (beech). It is cleaner (not so much dust and moss) and less splinters in your hands. When properly dried, I think it also burns better and longer compared to oak.

Birch burns very fast and, if I'm not mistaken, is resinous, which can settle in the chimney Suspect . Nearly had a chimney fire once, so very careful in what we burn...

I get an oak and beech mix from my supplier and have always been happy with it. A friend has access to dry birch and I agree with Myriam.. it burns too quickly and doesn't give out a great deal of heat
