Trimming Trees on Roadside Empty Trimming Trees on Roadside

At the beginning of December we received a letter from the Mairie telling us that we have to trim the trees that run along the side of our field beside the road so that they were not a danger to passing lorries/tractors. We were a bit surprised as none of our trees particularly overhang the road; I know that if you have trees near electric wires you had to keep them clear, but after enquires we were told it is a new requirement for anyone with roadside trees. A Devis from a firm of tree surgeons was included in the letter, or we had the option of doing the work ourselves by the 15th March 2015. As the cost quoted was 270€ we've opted to have it done, quicker and safer in the long run I think!

Luckily we don't have too many along the roadside, but several people around here are going to have either a hefty bill or lots of work to do as there is quite a lot of woodland around here that is not particularly well managed. Cutting back of some woodland has already started just down the road from us.

Is it just the Correze where this is happening or is it a regional/national requirement?

The general law is :

So to make short, it is at the convenience of Mayors. I think, you are not specifically targeted. They can not make an exception and write to all those who have a hedge roadside. Or ... tree surgeons are friends of the mayor ... pirat

Thank you Very 19. I know it was a general letter and we are not the only ones; the mayor is obviously having a 'tidy up' of the commune because this is the first time in the 6 years we've lived in this house that we've had a letter! Smile
