I seem to be having difficulties in receiving my top-up medical expenses from my Mutuelle when I've paid for treatment. For example, when I visited my doctor recently, I paid by card and also handed over my Carte Vitale. A couple of days later, the obligatory sum was repaid by CPAM into my bank account but I am still waiting for the top-up from the Mutuelle. I think I'm right in saying that the system should handle all of these payments back to my account automatically, or is it dependent on the CPAM passing the information to the Mutuelle.

What makes it worse is that the whole system is so incredibly unwieldy and paper-dependent that it is virtually impossible to keep track of what income refers to which treatment. Can anybody shed some light on this please? Perhaps I am doing something wrong but I've been doing it long enough and I thought I knew my way round the system!

Not every Mutuelle automatically pays via the CPAM.
Our original one, used to demand the factures before they would reimburse us.
The online one we now have, which is half the price, has a connection to the CPAM and they do it all via that.
You need to ask your mutuelle if they do that, and if not, I would think about changing to one that does!

Thanks for the reply, Inkflo. I didn't realise that - so despite the monumental bureaucracy that exists here, in some cases it still comes back to pen & paper!

I don't get this. I thought the whole point of the automated Carte Vitale system was that it should do away with the factures and be steadily working towards the paperless society that the officials keep banging on about.

I think it's the Mutuelle companies that don't participate, rather than the
cpam. It pays to shop around for your mutuelle, as our online one that we changed to three years ago,
deals direct and gives us a much better cover for less money and less hassle.
