Osteoporosis has suddenly decided to get me and I have read a lot of stuff on the internet but wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of the best way to handle it.

I do already do lots of exercise and I do not want to take medication, so am looking at natural ways to prevent it getting worse. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tradzoner
The love of my life had a bone scan a while back on a new scan/xray machine in Tulle after she broke her back. They were looking to see if the break was caused by Osteoporosis. The scan was colour coded and showed that Sue was boarder line on the print out . The Specialist consultant told Sue to drink plenty of milk, eat yougarts and soft cheeses.
The company we get our cod liver oil and multi vitamins from also do natural supliments for folk with Osteoporosis. We can post a PM to you with th name of the company and its web site details. All the items we get are about a third of the price that you pay at the local pharmacy.

My mum has severe osteoporosis, and has had several fractures. She is 89, but the treatment is pretty much the same at any age.
Eat foods high in calcium, such as cheese, eggs, milk, any dairy products. Get regular, gentle exercise and sunshine.
Her doctor has prescribed calcium and medication to fix the calcium, and vitamin D at intervals.
The medication that she used to be prescribed, has now been taken off the market, as it was affecting people's hearts, so now it's down to diet & supplements.

Thanks. It looks as though I will just take the supplements. Even that gets somewhat complicated when you study it. It seems that calcium supplements can also cause heart disease.

I had read up about the medication and how bad some of that was, so I certainly did not want to go that route.

I always eat plenty of cheese; yogurts and milk; but recently have found that eggs in any form make me feel quite sick. Bizarre.

Another on my list of older age ailments LOL.
