French Dog Owners

Post by Higgy on Thu Jun 12, 2014 7:36 am

Our little village has a host of dogs, most of them are fixed to a long chain and never ever go for
' walkies '.

When a budding Tour de France cyclist passes by the first one to spot said rider starts the rest of the
village dogs off and lasts for some time.

Each morning on the short stroll to school we pass 11 various hounds they all show their teeth and again
warn the other dogs that some more prey are due.

The other day on our trip to school I missed a heart beat and left the floor as a new dog in town got me. My
concentration was at the time fixed to the wild cherries so I did not see it creep up the head high banking about
two feet from me and let rip, since then I am more attentive at this location.

Our dog on his walk ignores most and is quiet, but the 3 labs who try to get over the gate set him off and he
does have a wonderful Newfoundland voice.

They probably think that a dog on a chain protects their house but in reality anyone who would want to break
in could avoid the dog and gain entry and as the dogs constantly bark nobody takes any notice.

Ahhhh the sound of rural France.

As it happens we've just had something on a UK forum site regarding the new dangerous dogs act.
This informs us that " a dog does not need to actually bite to be considered dangerously out of control. Generally, if a person has reasonable cause to believe that the dog may harm them, the law will apply "
So, you get some timid dog hater who gets yapped at who then feels entitled to call the police.
What's more this applies on your own property!

I wonder how the French would react to a similar law here?

I know of someone who got bitten by a dog and the owner paid her a large sum of money rather than go through the French legal system.

I only posted to see if the dogs in in your own neck of the woods are similarly disposed.

Our big lad Hagrid sleeps most of the time, when awake he is a gentle non barking giant.
