Boarding for 2 x dogs - FOUND ! Empty Boarding for 2 x dogs - FOUND !

Post by BLAKEVINE Sat Jul 27, 2013 2:49 pm

I have now removed all details of this as I hadn't realised I was breaking rule no.5. If anyone wants to know a good kennels (in the Charente) then send me a PM - which I now realise means "private message" .
thanks. K

I'm still looking for boarding closer to home and will have a look at one which, I believe, Amber has suggested.
many thanks.
K

Update - I hadn't appreciated how difficult this would be.............I knew the French took their dogs with them everywhere and hadn't appreciated that if they can't take them then they leave them at home with family or the like.  However, having trawled a radius of some 2and a half hours from 19320, we have ended up finding a kennels just in the Charente.  Yes - it's 190 kilometres from our house and a bit west of Limoges airport, but, we will do anything to make our dogs comfortable.  It makes trips via Limoges airport possible by adding on extra time to drop the dogs off.  Still haven't found anything more local but haven't given up - yet.  Thanks to all.  Will report back when they have had their first kennel visit which is SOON!  K.

Looking for well equipped and caring boarding kennels for our two dogs (Lotti the lurcher and Herbie the border terrier).  Both very well socialised and used to mixing with dogs, people, children.  In UK were spoilt by local kennels who had paddock area for exercising a few times a day so walking on the lead is not their idea of "exercise".  I am looking for something suitable for a few days only so not a long term stay. We are in Les Charbonniers, 19320 St Merd de Lapleau so anything between here and Limoges would be of interest to us. Thanks.  K.

This looks a good one, but have no personal experience of it I'm afraid.

Hi Blakevine. This isn't going to be easy. In my experience (I also have 2 dogs), French kennels rarely exercise the dogs that stay with them, which in most cases limits you to ones run by English people. There is, however, a French guy who runs kennels to the north of Dun le Palestel, who regularly walks the dogs and has a reasonably sized compound, but that's a fair trot for you. There is also one run by an English lady to the east of Limoges; she has a very large compound.

If you want either of these numbers, please send me a pm.

I am experiencing the same problem in the Creuse. I do use a kennels which is very good (Valhalla) but they are on holiday for the whole of September. They are too far for you I guess Blakevine as I reckon its about an hour and a halfs drive at least.

I have looked at several others in the area and they are not really suitable for my dogs. I don't want them near a busy road as two of mine are expert escape artists, so am worried enough at leaving them with anyone!

I am not sure now what to do. One of mine hates car travel and the kennels was ideal as only 10 mins from us.

I had thought of a pet sitter but the house is still in renovation state, so not really suitable for that.

They are also not easy to walk locally because we have too many dogs in the area and one panics and barks all the time and the other one is just over excitable. I only have one sane dog out of three because I have not had the time to train the other two properly. My fault entirely but back problems make it difficult.

Please state exactly when you need someone to look after your two dogs, as I may know someone who can help.

A good friend of mine provides this service, as well as saving horses from slaughter and saving dogs and cats that are abandoned or on the list to be euthenised. She also trains dogs that cannot be handled by their owners. She is absolutely great with all animals, looks after them very well and she lives outside of our village in the woods.

If you tell me the dates, I can give her a call to see if she can do it and let you know by PM.

We are in the 19320 area too, about 15 kms. from you.

We use friends who run a garderning/caretaking business near St Hilaraire Le Treille in Haute Vienne. They take our New Foundland for a few days whenever we have to return to UK for really reasonable prices - he stay in the house with them and when they student age daughters are home as in summer he comes back happy and exhausted. It's quite galling to see him do to them wagging his tail - at least we know he is happy. PM me if you want contact details.

Hi Myriam, Chris, Irena and co - I'm just getting to grips with this forum site to excuse me for not seeing messages yesterday. If there's someone in 19320 15 mins from les Charbonniers that sounds great and I'm interested. We have a wedding invite for 3 August (yes, I know what you're thinking) and it's in Devon.......It had been put on the back-burner as we have SO much to sort out having just moved here (had house 3 weeks) so did not anticipate being able to consider to go. However, things turning out better than we could ever have anticipated. This weekend is probably now impossible, but, let me know if your friend might be available please. I'm sure there will be other occasions so I'm still interested anyway. many thanks. Karen.

Hi Myriam - sorry I couldn't respond..........we were expecting the electrician who turned up on time and started work and then needed to turn the power off.........he then discovered a problem with our meter and phoned EDF for them to come and fix it. He was able to carry on and finish his bit and EDF turned up 17h00 yest. All fixed or so we thought but then when electrician came back again today he found another problem (on his side of the wiring) so promptly turned our power off before we went up in smoke. All sorted now but consequently far too late to do anything about dogs and even get to the wedding in Devon. Rather a shame but glad we not gone up in smoke cause could have done it we'd have gone away............Still interested in your friend sitting another time so please keep in touch. many thanks. Karen.
