The title says it - what do you recommend - markets, live music - any outdoor events really - any where in Limousin or very nearby would be great

Definitely the evening markets where you can buy food, barbecue on site and eat/drink. The link is http://www.marches-producteurs.com/.

What about the steam train http://www.trainvapeur.com/

If it involves children (or adults that like to have fun) then Futuroscope near Poitiers. Make sure you plan to stay late - the show and fireworks end close to midnight and are really good.

The market at Les Herolles on the 29th of every month http://www.foire-des-herolles.fr/ is really good

Limoges itself is good for a visit and we did the Petit Train the other day which really shows you what places are worth going to (1 hour trip) http://www.limoges-tourisme.com/fr/se-divertir/en-famille/35-petit-train

There's also the festival at Confolens http://www.festivaldeconfolens.com/ 13-18 August.

That's all I can think of for now.

What about a festival of French life though the ages. I can even get you a pair of 2€ discount vouchers.

Le Buis Blues Festival 24th August at Place de l'Eglise, Le Buis. This is a great open air event. It used to be free but now they charge a small entrance fee.

The event actually starts the evening before at Nieul.

You can find lots of events on this site: www.tourismelimousin.com. You can select a departement or search on other criteria.

Hi Folks
After showing the Inlaws and outlaws round(I did not know how many friends and Relertives i had until we moved to France) for the first three years i showed everyone round . I now insist they hire a car with a sat nav on arrival at the airport. On arrival at our place i give them a copy of the local whats on guide. Then i can get on with the job of sitting in the shade with a glass of wine.Yeh i know what a spoil sport but after you have seen the sights for the 10th time i'd sooner chill out rather then tramp around in the heat of day.

Hi Folks
The local Marie in Marcilliac-la-Crosille publish a monthly whats on in the area. they have copies in the papershop, hairdressers, bakers shop, garage and even in the doctors surgery.Myriam i have seen your local whats on info in your own maries office, although alot of it was well out of date. Egletons marie has a good display of info to and when i went into Meymac's tourist information i was showered with freebie's. Infact when i came out Sue thought i'd robbed the place ,i had so much stuff.

La Montagne or L'Echo du Berry are good for finding out whats on.

Its not for me but if you are arty, Gargilesse Dampierre has the festival of the harp from the 4th to 25th August and there is a museum with paintings from the local artist. It is also classed as one of the prettiest villages in France, so not a bad way to spend a day.

There are also quite a few events going on with traditional follk music but not everyone's tastes

(eva.arnitoile.net) (passeatonvoisin.arnitoile.net)

samedi 31 aout DuoEva et Les trollls pour les 10 ans de l'association Naut'active, organisatrice de l'évènement à Champagnat (23), étang de la Naute

Just remembered there's a village called Montrol Senard which is a living museum http://www.tourisme-hautevienne.com/spip.php?article53&produit=210000947. People live there but some houses have been dedicated to how things were around a 100 years ago e.g. school house, bakery, living areas etc. There are 2 good restaurants/bars there too. Then Mortemart itself is interesting to walk around - old manor house with lake and swans, old abbey, nice old church. Often there are art exhibitions plus there's 2 more good restaurants. Or bring a picnic.

Thanks Irena Smile ... I went there in 2003 on my first visit to this area, 2 years before I moved here. Trouble was I couldn't remember where it was. Now I know. Worth a visit if you are in the area and very pretty in summer when there are a multitude of flowers.
