and we went to the rugby so beforehand we threw together a slow cooker of veg, red quinoa, tofu a few herbs. Returned home to a lovely smell of cooking as we came through the door. Worked our way through half the quantity with loads of bread dipped in the "gravy". De-caf coff and truffles (en promotion at Lidl) now in front of the tele.

We've got beef cuury, but for the next few days we will mostly be eating butternut squash as our lovely neighbours gave me one that weighed about 4kg this morning! So far have rustled up a batch of spicy roast squash soup, and a tomato, squash and goats cheese gratin...

Here's another butternut squash recipe, but you can also cut them up and freeze them raw.

Tonight we will be enjoying Swordfish Steaks, napped with a Brown Shrimp & Butter Sauce with a hint of Mace and served with some Potato Wedges. Too long at work today & no time to make a dessert, so it could be a couple of Turrón from the Crimbo cupboard after the Cheese.

Must be a cauli thing as I bought a large one and using Delia's Cauli and Roquefort soup receipe turned it into a cauldron of Cauli and Bleu Empereur soup. (Never had bleu empereur before but it turned out fine). Had some for lunch though so not sure if I've now corrupted this thread.....sorry. K

Hi K - yes, I only use half a cauli and half a broccoli floret as there's only 2 of us, otherwise we'd be drowning in the stuff!! The rest of the veg will no doubt get used up in some sort of stir-fry in the next couple of days... Smile

Cauli again! One of my worst nightmares tonight, Cauliflower Cheese (I detest most hot, melted, cheesy things) with thick slices of Corned Beef & Peas. Afterwards, Cheeses followed with Pineapple Crumble & Ice Cream.

We most often have our cauliflower cheese with strips of crispy smoked bacon and lashing of Daddies sauce. I find it too rich without the bacon and sauce..

Onion B recipes abound on the net, I have tried several and they have all come out pretty well. I do have a really good recipe for getting rid of the dreaded courgette and it makes a very good Bhaji. What's for dinner tonight? - Page 5 Cb10

When frying, I cook it about one third of the time, until they hold together, then allow to cool and freeze for later. This will allow a second fry when required that does not over cook the bhaji

We're having roast chicken joints and salad, and (strange co-incidence!) rice and apple baked pudding (which is basically rice pudding layered with apples..)

Thanks very much Le Dolly for the recipe, that looks a good one. Is the drum (chickpea) flour available here?

Spitfire48: thank you too.

Will try making the onion bahji's in advance, freeze them and then serve them at our next cinema session in the dining room of our B&B. Hope the locals won't find them too spicy affraid !

Drum flour?  GRAM flour. Yes it is readily available in Thoune Asia and other Asian outlets and some Bio/health shops. It can be done, most unsuccessfully in my opinion, with other flours, but for original taste and flavour, it must be Gram. It does not clog like wheat & cereal flours and it cooks faster.
Bon Appétit.
