Anyone tips of best place to go to buy some good quality wood/logs that are ready for burning now and will be delivered quickly? The last lot we bought wasn't very good quality.

What price is reasonable for 1m3?

Best ask locally (mairie, neighbours) and order in April for delivery in September. If you order double the amount that you need the first time, you will always have a reserve of dry wood. Here the wood isn't sold per stère (m3) but by corde (4m3) and they don't deliver less than half a corde.

Good luck! If you find a good wood merchant keep him on, as they are becoming scarce.

We are lucky to have found a reliable local man who charges 45euros a metre squared, in 1 metre lengths which we have to saw into 3 to fit the stove. He was recommended by others in the hamlet. We get it in September, stack in the barn, and 5 meters lasts the winter.

We asked around locally where we live and found a man with a lorry and a field full of wood all beautifully stacked. He has charged us the same price the last 3 years; 50 euros a stere for 50cm lengths being a mixture of oak, beech and silver birch. We get through 16 stere (4 cordes) each year although we do have the stove going all day and we don't like to be cold!
